TOKYO, Oct 28, 2020 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Air Water Inc. (Air Water) have jointly developed a compact LNG filling facility (Facility)(1) that can be used in space-limited logistics facilities. The equipment will be used to fuel heavy LNG-powered trucks.A compact LNG Filling Station and Heavy LNG TruckThis is the first portable filling system in Japan and the world's first off-grid power-generation system capable of fueling trucks with LNG even during power outages. Furthermore, by circulating hot water through its waste-heat recovery mechanism, the system can help to prevent freezing problems associated LNG operations in cold or highly humid regions. In November, MC and Air Water will begin testing the system in Hokkaido, where it will be used to fuel three heavy LNG trucks, one manufactured by Isuzu Motors Ltd. and the other two by Italian firm. With the cooperation of Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc., the partners plan to assess the system's overall effectiveness and how much it can reduce CO2 emissions and fuels costs typically generated by heavy trucks. The results of the tests will help the partners to determine whether or not to make the system commercially available. At present, heavy trucks fueled by LNG are not in commercial use in Japan. Most (approximately 500,000) of the heavy trucks on Japan's roads are diesel fueled, and there are growing concerns about the need to reduce their CO2 emissions. Unlike trucks powered by electric batteries or fuel cells, LNG fueled trucks have ranges in excess of 1,000 kilometers, and tests have already shown them to be capable of cutting CO2 emissions by more than 10% when compared to diesel-fueled trucks.(2) The partners are also considering ways to further reduce CO2 emissions in the future, such as by using CO2-free LNG.To successfully commercialize this system, the partners will be relying on an effective marriage of their respective assets and expertise. MC has been developing a wide range of LNG operations since 1969 and can claim both an extensive business profile and industry-wide know-how, while, in addition to its logistics field of network, Air Water boasts an impressive lineup of development-and manufacturing technologies in the field of LNG, including tanker trucks and satellite supply facilities. This joint project represents a meaningful step towards our transition to cleaner energies, and both partners are confident that it can help to realize low-carbon or carbon-free societies in the future. MC and Air Water are aiming to install this system in locations throughout Japan by mid 2020s, at which point they hope to be offering a competitive supply of automobile-use LNG to customers across the country.(1) With a footprint of just 3.3 x 12 meters (the same size as a parking space for a heavy truck), the new system is less than half of the cost of a conventional LNG filling station. At less than 10 minutes per fill-up, it also refuels quicker than conventional stations. The plant is to make each station capable of fueling more than 60 trucks per day. The patent application for the system has already been filed.(2) A heavy LNG powered-truck built by Isuzu Motors Ltd. was used in tests undertaken as part of the Ministry of the Environment's "Low Carbon Research and Development Program", which ran from 2016 to fiscal year 2018. The tests confirmed that the truck had a range of more than 1,000 (primarily highway) kilometers per fill-up in city-to-city transport, and that it also produced less than 90% of the CO2 emissions produced by diesel-powered trucks that meet Japan?s heavy vehicle fuel efficiency standards set in fiscal year 2015.About Mitsubishi CorporationMitsubishi Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, is a global integrated business enterprise that develops and operates business across virtually every industry including industrial finance, energy, metals, machinery, chemicals, foods, and environmental business. Furthermore, to draw out the full potential of each employee and increase productivity, it will apply frameworks based on job descriptions and performance management to further accelerate the transition to job-based human resources (HR) management, in which each employee's work, role, and the expected output are clearly defined.Main initiatives targeting new workstyles under the "New Normal"1. Process innovations eliminating the use of paper and personal sealsUp to now, one of the main factors necessitating an employee's presence in Japanese offices was the need to put their personal seal on documents. By the end of FY2021, the use of personal seals for the internal operations will be completely eliminated, and work processes will be reviewed, as the company undergoes a migration to an Internet-based workflow system. The use of personal seals in interactions with outside parties will be coordinated with the persons involved, as part of efforts to adopt electronic documents and processes. Specifically, in October 2020, Hitachi began using an electronic signature service provided by the Hitachi Group in sales and procurement operations. In addition to cutting back on the use of personal seals, an in-house paperless promoting project was initiated, targeting a reduction in the Hitachi Group's annual use of paper in Japan (excluding listed group companies) from 700 million pages in FY2019 (converted to A4 size) to about 200 million pages in FY2020 (approx. 70% reduction). Through these initiatives and co-creation activities, Hitachi will increase the social value and environmental value of not only Hitachi but also various stakeholders including the customers.2. Office innovationsBy clearly defining the types of work done in each of three workplace categories--Base Offices, Satellite Offices, and Working from Home - Hitachi will enable employees to flexibly choose where they will work, depending on the nature of the task at hand. Base offices will incorporate a "free address" format, in which desks are not assigned to increase office efficiency, and the office space itself will change in keeping with the way in which space is used; for example, with enhanced real communication space, or the installation of private soundproof booths for online communications. In addition, to support remote environments, in January 2021, Hitachi will begin introducing new client PCs that are not susceptible to communication delays even when connected from external networks.3. Support for "Working from Home" managementTo promote smooth communication and management in working from home, Hitachi started management training in October, targeting Hitachi Group managers including 8,000 managers of Hitachi, Ltd. The managers can learn skills and knowledge necessary for daily management in working from home. We support activation of mutual communication between managers and subordinates and the effective operation of online meetings.Promotion of Job-based HR managementIn order to expand Social Innovation Business on a global scale, Hitachi has been shifting to Job-based HR management starting from development of global HR management platform in FY2011*.The Job-based HR management, which Hitachi is aiming for, is maximizing the performance of both organizations and individuals by visualizing both "responsibilities" and "human resources" and assigning the right people for the right positions. For managers and subordinates to achieve individual performance goals and growth through further activated communications, Hitachi plans to introduce frameworks for "visualization" such as Job Descriptions and Talent Reviews until FY2020, linking them with existing Performance Management.Since it is important for each employee to deeply understand Job-based workstyles and work autonomously, the Company will communicate the overview of Hitachi's "Job- based HR management" to all employees by organization role and layer. In specific, Hitachi will promote understanding of Job-based workstyles through various opportunities and methods such as providing information via a new intranet site (from October) and e-learning programs (from November), interactive dialogue in small number, and discussion and exchanges of opinions at town hall meetings and training programs.*Please refer to the following news release of the details of Hitachi's global HR management initiatives in the past. http://www.hitachi.com/New/cnews/month/2017/11/171128.htmlAbout Hitachi, Ltd.Hitachi, Ltd. TOKYO, Oct 27, 2020 - (JCN Newswire) - Seven Japanese enterprises are pleased to announce that they have agreed to jointly invest in TradeWaltz Inc. (TradeWaltz), the company that manages the trade data sharing platform that operated by the same name. Partaking in the investment are NTT DATA Corporation (NTT DATA), Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Toyota Tsusho), Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (Tokio Marine Nichido), MUFG Bank, Ltd. (MUFG), Kanematsu Corporation (Kanematsu), and Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. (Sompo Japan). TradeWaltz is headquartered in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward. Its President & CEO is Mr. Hirohisa Kojima.Fig. 1. Conventional communications framework before rollout of TradeWaltzFig. 2. Centralized, cross-Industry management of trading operations following rollout of TradeWaltzTrading operations cover a wide range of products and involve numerous procedures, including documentation, consistency confirmations, and other work that can be costly to perform manually. Furthermore, considering multiple parties engaged in a single transaction, developing a system accurately and safely to share information has been a challenge faced by all industries. A cross-industrial consortium was established in August 2017 to address this challenge. With NTT DATA acting as its secretariat, the consortium worked with various trading companies, banks, insurance companies, shipping companies, and other industry players to examine how digitalize technologies might be used to make trading operations safer and more efficient. After tax reforms prompted a revision of Japan's law on the preservation of electronic tax records and other changes in 2020, the Japanese government also began to actively encourage businesses to make the switch from paper to digital. Based on the results of its discussions among consortium members, NTT DATA began developing the TradeWaltz' platform, which uses blockchain technology to connect trade-related information. Provided that this proves to be a practical system, it should make it possible to digitalize and centrally manage all trading operations, cutting workloads by as much as 50%. Administration, development, and management of the platform is handled by its namesake company TradeWaltz, which was founded in April of this year. The seven aforementioned enterprises that recently agreed to invest in TradeWaltz will be working closely with one another to further develop the platform into a practical and commercially viable business. The first step will be a sequential rollout, whereby it is adopted gradually for different processes with new functions added and other improvements made where necessary. In the future, the TradeWaltz platform can connect government agencies, service providers, and other players both in Japan and abroad who are considering digitalization of documents. All seven investors are confident that its successful rollout can help to promote the digitalization of trading operations, first in the ASEAN region and eventually throughout the world. Dynamic solutions are needed if we hope to eradicate the inefficiencies that have long plagued trading operations. Having made this joint commitment to TradeWaltz, our enterprises shall continue to encourage cross-industry collaborations that are dedicated to finding those solutions. TOKYO, Oct 26, 2020 - (JCN Newswire) - Eisai Co., Ltd. and Cogstate, Ltd. announced today that the companies have entered into a collaboration whereby Eisai has secured the global development rights and exclusive commercialization rights of all cognitive function tests developed by Cogstate, including the "Cogstate Brief BatteryTM" (CBB) for use in healthcare and other markets. This global licensing deal is an expansion of an existing partnership executed in August 2019 whereby Eisai secured exclusive development and commercialization rights in Japan for all cognitive function tests developed by Cogstate, including the CBB. Both companies plan to proceed with development globally of CBB as a tool for individuals to self-assess brain performance to support healthy lifestyle choices and preventative measures in daily life, as well as a medical device to aid healthcare professionals in clinical diagnosis decisions. Developed by Cogstate, the CBB is a scientifically validated digital tool that enables cognitive function self-checks and consists of four tests evaluating psychomotor function, attention, learning and memory, and working memory. In the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, the CBB has been adapted as a medical device named "CognigramTM" that has achieved marketing authorization by regulators in these jurisdictions and provides informative results for healthcare professionals to support clinical examination to aid in the diagnosis of MCI and dementia. In its medium-term business plan, EWAY2025, Eisai is aiming to become a "Medico Societal Innovator" (a company that changes society through creating medicines and providing solutions). Eisai is creating next-generation medical remedies focused on the neurology and oncology areas as well as building disease ecosystem platforms, in order to provide environments and solutions including digital solutions for early diagnosis and early treatment.Cogstate aims to make assessment of brain health as simple, common and informative as assessment of blood pressure. Cogstate's technology, which is easy to use and available in over 70 languages, is supported by extensive scientific validation, including more than 600 peer reviewed publications. Cogstate technology has been used extensively in clinical trials, including trials conducted by Eisai. The global agreement between Eisai and Cogstate will allow the two companies to replicate many of the advancements that have already been launched in Japan, where Eisai has developed and launched a new digital tool using the CBB, named "NouKNOWTM" (pronounced "NOH-NOH"), a non-medical device for self-assessment of brain performance (brain health). Eisai is currently investigating the possibility of developing a medical device using the CBB in Japan. In recent years, various research has demonstrated the possibility that decline in brain performance may be mitigated through major readjustments to lifestyle, such as regular exercise and sleep, a well-balanced diet, and social interaction. However, according to a survey by Eisai, the number of people taking correct preventive actions or habitually performing self-checks of cognitive function are few, with disparities (chasms) existing against the incorporation of these habits into daily lifestyle. As a result of these findings, in Japan, Eisai is constructing a dementia platform, called "Easiit", with the goal of erasing these chasms. Core to this platform will be the brain-performance self-check tool "NouKNOW" and the "Easiit App" which aims to contribute to the promotion of health practices through data visualization of brain and body health insights. It can be expected that the use of "NouKNOW" to perform periodic self-assessments of brain performance among the generation currently in their prime working years, along with the use of the "Easiit App" for the adjustment of lifestyle and practice of preventive measures in daily life, will become an opportunity for the creation of better brain and body health.Through this agreement, Eisai and Cogstate will work together for the development of digital tools for simpler self-checks of cognitive function and diagnostic tool development for healthcare professionals to promote greater awareness of brain performance globally, thus contributing to the realization of well-being for all.About Eisai Co., Ltd.Eisai Co., Ltd. defines our corporate mission as "giving first thought to patients and their families and to increasing the benefits health care provides," which we call our human health care (hhc) philosophy. YOKOHAMA, Japan, Oct 22, 2020 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has received an order for two sets of one of the world's largest flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems for the Nikola Tesla B coal-fired power plant in Serbia. This is the second order from Serbia for FGD systems, the first having been an order for two sets for the Nikola Tesla A coal-fired plant received in September 2017, and the third such order in the Western Balkans, including an order received in July 2016 for the Ugljevik Power Plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The newly ordered FGD systems each have a flue gas desulfurization capacity of 670 megawatts (MW), with operation scheduled to commence in 2024. Together with the two sets ordered for the Nikola Tesla A plant of which the construction is on-going, the new installations will further reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) and particulates emissions, thereby helping to meet European Union (EU) environmental standards and support Serbia's quest to join the EU.The Nikola Tesla B power plant is operated by Public Enterprise Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS). It is located some 60 kilometers southwest of Belgrade, the capital, and roughly 20 kilometers west of the Nikola Tesla A plant, the country's largest. The newly ordered two sets of FGD systems will be installed in units 1 and 2, which have a total output of 1,340 MW.In accepting the new order, Mitsubishi Power has formed a consortium with three local companies: Energotehnika Juzna Backa, Gosa Montaza AD, and EX ING B&P Construction. Mitsubishi Power will take charge of project management and all facets from basic design to delivery and installation of core equipment, and the consortium partners will perform local supply, civil engineering, and installation work. FGD system design and coordination will be undertaken at Mitsubishi Power's Kure Works in Hiroshima Prefecture. The project will be wholly financed by EPS.The Nikola Tesla B power plant, like Nikola Tesla A, uses lignite coal as fuel, which has higher levels of sulfur and lower caloric value than other coal types. The added installation of Mitsubishi Power's FGD systems will reduce emissions of SO2 and particulates. SO2 emissions will be cut by 96%, achieving a level of 130mg/Nm3(1) required to comply with the European Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and the new BREF (best available techniques reference) requirements issued by the EU. Mitsubishi Power's FGD technologies for lignite-fired boilers, coupled with its successful track record of supplying more than 300 units worldwide, were key factors behind the company's selection to receive this latest order.Going forward, Mitsubishi Power will continue to proactively propose its high-performance and high-efficiency desulfurization and denitration systems and electrostatic precipitators, as well as its Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) integrating these offerings, to the European and other global markets, where demand for such equipment is expected to grow as emissions regulations become increasingly severe. In doing so, the company is committed to helping reduce environmental impact on global scale.(1) mg=milligram. TOKYO, Oct 19, 2020 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, was granted Approval in Principle (AIP)(1) from the French Classification Society, Bureau Veritas (BV), for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel gas supply system (FGSS) for marine four-stroke dual fuel engines(2). The certificate of AIP was presented today at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's headquarters in Yokohama. The FGSS comprises an LNG fuel tank, gas supply unit, control systems and other relevant equipment. The FGSS to which the AIP was granted this time was developed mainly to be installed on coastal ferries and small to mid-sized cargo ships, based on not only experience and knowledge obtained through shipbuilding of LNG carriers for many years but also technologies and know-how accumulated by development of FGSS products for large ships. The small size vacuum-insulated type tanks to be applied for the system have a double shell structure that ensures high heat insulation and also allows the external cylinder of the tank to be at normal temperature, which consequently simplifies the support structure of the tank and reduces the workload for the installation work. Further, the Tank Connection Space(3) is also designed to save space while giving consideration to realize easy operation and less maintenance.Mitsubishi Shipbuilding delivered its FGSS in 2019 to be installed on Japan's first LNG-fueled car carrier, currently being built at Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and has one more order for the ship currently under construction. Those large tanks with insulation coatings are designed to be the best fit for the installation in large vessels.Mitsubishi Shipbuilding will keep expanding its product lineup to meet the increasing demand for LNG fuel and will continue not only providing FGSS as a manufacturer, but also offering superior engineering services for gas handling-related equipment in order to support the design and construction of LNG-fueled ships regardless of the size and vessel type, contribute to the further development of ocean transport, and reduce the environmental load.(1) Approval in Principle (AIP) indicates that a certification body has reviewed the basic design, and confirmed that it meets the technical requirements and standards for safety. The inspection of this system was conducted based on the IGF Code(4) with which compliance is required when using LNG fuel, and BV's ship classification regulations.(2) A marine four-stroke dual fuel engine is an engine fitted mainly in small and mid-sized ships, and is able to use both conventional heavy oil and natural gas as fuel.(3) Tank Connection Space is a space surrounding all tank connections and tank valves. It is required under the IGF Code for tanks with such connections in enclosed spaces.(4) The International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code) is an international regulation stipulating the safety requirements for ships using LNG and other fuels with low flashpoints.About Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group is one of the world's leading industrial firms. Toyota City, Japan, Oct 19, 2020 - (JCN Newswire) - TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) drove the GR Yaris and GR Supra(1) at the Goodwood SpeedWeek(2), held from October 16 through 18 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in England, and posted images of the experience.GR Yaris at the Goodwood SpeedWeekThe Goodwood Festival of Speed (GFoS) is known as a motorsport festival where many motorsport fans, famous cars both old and new, and world class drivers gather from all over the world usually around July every year. The 2020 festival was postponed to next year or later due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, while a no-spectator event was held in its place as the Goodwood Speedweek. Scenes from the event were "broadcast" worldwide over the Internet. TGR raced at the GFoS in 2009, and has participated in the motorsports festival since 2012.In the rally stage (Rally Sprint) held from October 16 through 18, the new GR Yaris was driven as the zero car(3). In addition, in the Motorsports Circuit special stage (First Glance), the GR Yaris was driven in public. The GR Yaris was born as a vehicle that anyone can drive the way they want with peace of mind on any road in the world. The reason for this is that it incorporates lessons learned from the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (WRT), including how to make cars that are competitive in the WRC(4), as well as learnings gleaned from evaluations given by professional drivers from the early stages of development. Based on the desire of master driver Morizo to "restore the Toyota sports cars," the new GR Yaris was created as the first Toyota vehicle developed with the reversed concept of turning a motorsports car into a production car. For this event, 2019 TGR WRT drivers, Jari-Matti Latvala and Kris Meeke, and Elfyn Evans who is racing as a 2020 TGR WRT driver drove the GR Yaris. As for GR production vehicles, the GR Supra limited edition(5) also appeared at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.Master driver Morizo also participated through video, sharing through images his passion for motorsports, the development of the GR Yaris, and the experience of riding in the passenger seat of the GR Yaris.VIDEO MESSAGE FROM MASTER DRIVER MORIZO (AKIO TOYODA, PRESIDENT TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION):"For car lovers like us, there is no better place to be than Goodwood. It's a feast for all the senses and even though we may not be able to smell the gasoline this year. Thanks to the imagination of the Duke of Richmond, we still get to see and hear many fantastic new cars, including a favorite of mine, this new Toyota GR Yaris. This is the production version of our Yaris WRC race car which we drove straight to the winner's circle in 2019, making us the current WRC champion! In truth, we participate in motorsports like WRC because we learn so much about how to make our cars more dynamic and fun to drive. In my role as Master Driver for Toyota, I was personally involved in the creation and tuning of this new GR Yaris, alongside our Gazoo team member the great Tommi Makinen. Unfortunately, I can't take you on a real test drive but here's a little taste of what it feels like. Enjoy!"(1) Name used for marketing and other promotional communications.(2) https://www.goodwood.com/motorsport/goodwood-speedweek/(3) A course car driven through a stage before the competitors start to alert spectators that the section is live.
