(AsiaGameHub) – The United Kingdom’s Gaming Commission (UKGC) has announced that it is seeking a head of illegal markets. This move comes amid growing challenges posed by illegal gambling operators in Great Britain.
The Head of Illegal Markets Will Assist in Combating Illegal Gambling
The UK regulator described the position as a full-time role with a salary of £65,000 per year. A part-time option, requiring availability for at least 30 hours per week, may also be available.
The job will be based on a hybrid model, involving regular travel to Birmingham, and will require occasional overnight stays. The successful candidate will be prohibited from playing the National Lottery.
In this newly created role, the individual will help shape the UKGC’s approach to tackling illegal gambling. They will collaborate with the Operations Directorate to coordinate and direct resources from the Enforcement and Intelligence units. The head of illegal markets will also work closely with teams including the Illegal Markets, Sports Betting Integrity Unit, Legal, Policy, Strategy, and Communications departments. The position reports directly to the Director of Enforcement and Intelligence.
The UKGC highlighted that this is a high-profile role, exposing the appointee regularly to external stakeholders and agency leaders. The creation of the post supports the commission’s broader mission to fight illegal gambling and promote a safer gaming environment.
The UKGC Listed the Qualities It Is Looking For
The UKGC outlined its ideal candidate as someone possessing strong leadership abilities, extensive technical knowledge, experience collaborating with legal teams, and a sharp understanding of how different strategies impact operations.
Additionally, the UKGC noted that qualifications such as SIO, CPIA, PACE, or POCA are desirable, along with experience in working with covert authorities, disrupting illegal markets, and a solid understanding of the gaming industry.
Applicants interested in the role must submit their applications by May 24, 2026, according to the UKGC. Interviews are scheduled to take place between June 5 and June 9.
